Dr. Henry C. Lee, Ph.D.
Best known for his expert sleuthing in such high-profile cases as O.J. Simpson, Vince Foster and JonBenet Ramsey, Dr. Henry C. Lee is a forensic scientist of longstanding repute. A native of the
People’s Republic of China, he graduated in 1960 from the Central Police College in Taiwan with a major in police science.
After working for several years as a police captain, Dr. Lee came to the United States to pursue further study. In 1972, he earned a bachelor’s degree in forensic science from John Jay College of
Criminal Justice in New York. He went on to study science and biochemistry at New York University, earning his master’s degree in 1974 and his doctorate in biochemistry in 1975.
Dr. Lee worked at New York University Medical Center from 1966 to 1975, when he joined the University of New Haven and created the school’s forensic science department.
Dr. Lee served as commission for the Department of Public Safety and as both chief criminalist and director of the Connecticut Sate Police Forensic Science Laboratory.
Currently, chief emeritus of the Connecticut Department of Public Safety’s Division of Scientific Services and a full professor of forensic science at the University of New Haven, Dr. Lee consults to
thousands of law enforcement agencies around the world.
He is the recipient of many awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from Taipei Taiwan Police Headquarters, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences Criminalist Section’s Distinguished
Criminalists Award, and the J. Donero Award from the International Association of Identification. In 1992, he was elected a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. He also
holds honorary doctoral degrees from the University of New Haven, St. Joseph College, the University of Bridgeport School of Law and Roger Williams University.
