Departmental Facilities

The Department of Morbid Anatomy and Forensic Medicine at the Lagos State University College of Medicine, Lagos, Nigeria has excellent facilities for postgraduate studies.

 

Library

The departmental library has an extensive holding of English language journals and texts in forensic medicine and science. The library includes complete series of the following journals:

Transaction of the Medico-Legal Society; Journal of Forensic Medicine; Forensic Science International; The American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology; Science and Justice; Journal of the Forensic Science Society; Journal of the Canadian Society of Forensic Science; Medicine, Science and the Law; Journal of Forensic Sciences; Journal of Clinical Forensic Medicine.

 

There are facilities for on-line computer literature searches via the University computer network. The extensive range of textbooks include all major English language texts in forensic medicine and forensic science.

 

Laboratories

The mortuary facility has been recently completely refurbished. Equipment for alternative light source examinations and electrolyte ion-specific electrode analysis is available on site. The Department of Morbid Anatomy and Forensic Medicine has its own histopathology. Postgraduate students have ready access to department computers with a wide range of standard software including word processing, desktop publishing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics, and statistical programs.
